ARKANSAS ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES is a non-profit, non-partisan, child advocacy organization founded in 1977. We are not a state agency and do not provide any direct services to the public. As advocates, we research, educate, debate, dialogue, compromise and rethink childrens issues. We perform an invaluable role for which most other people do not have the time:
- We analyze public policy issues.
- We make legislation more digestible.
- We translate technical intricacies.
- We monitor processes.
- We calculate impacts.
- We lobby.
And, we do all these things in order to create sounder public policies (laws)for Arkansas children and their families.
MISSION and POSITION STATEMENT
AACF 2006 Annual Report
AACF also staffs the Arkansas Kids Count Coalition, a membership organization started in 1996 to bring together a variety of child-oriented organizations so that all could have a stronger voice for children.
Our funding is dependent on charitable contributions from individuals, organizations and businesses; grants from private foundations; a few contracts with state agencies; and proceeds from the annual Soup Sunday fundraiser. We host an annual meeting so donors may hear year-end financial statements and know how their contributions are being used.
AACF boasts a staff of 10 professionals, and graduate student and pediatric interns; and is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Directors. Our offices are located in the Lafayette Hotel in downtown Little Rock.
We are a member of the following national organizations:
