Kids Count Day at the Capitol 2011

9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Please join child advocates from across the state joining together at the Arkansas State Capitol to participate in the legislative process, to meet with their local legislators, attend legislative committee meetings, and observe lawmakers voting on bills that affect the lives of children and their families. Learn about specific bills that impact children being considered at the Capitol that day and give input to your legislators. Hear from legislative leaders and talk with experienced legislative advocates about how you can make a difference for children during the day at the Capitol.

Registration and orientation begins in the Arkansas Education Association (AEA) Building's Auditorium located on the grounds of the State Capitol at 1500 W. 4th Street (just to the north and in front of the Capitol). This is also where lunch will be served at Noon.   The following is a schedule for the day.

AGENDA
AEA Auditorium

8:30 a.m.: Registration begins

9:00 a.m.: Welcome and Orientation

State Capitol Building

9:30 a.m.: Cutting the Red Tape Rally in support of streamlining ARKids First applications to prevent 20,000 children a year from falling off the rolls. Second floor of the rotunda.

10:00 a.m.: Attend legislative committee meetings, Meet with your local legislators, Tour of the Capitol (sign up in advance)

11:00 a.m.: Group Photo with Gov. Mike Beebe: Governor's Conference Room, Second Floor.

AEA Auditorium

Noon: Box Lunch with your legislators and other child advocates from your area

State Capitol Building

1:30 p.m.: The House and Senate Convenes: Observe the proceedings of the House or Senate from the gallery, meet with your legislator, or tour the Capitol (sign-up in advance).

3:00 p.m.: Kids Count Day ends.

Please register today!!

There is no cost to attend or participate in the activities. We can provide you with a box lunch for $10.
