Policy Cafés: a new AACF/Kids Count service
Policy Cafés: a new AACF/Kids Count service
Posted by Tara Manthey on March 8th 2010

Let's kick off the campaign season with conversations about making a difference for children and families in your community. Legislators and candidates are eager to hear solutions-and you can be part of it. During the next few months Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and the Arkansas Kids Count Coalition would like to help bring a "Policy Café" to your community.

See our calendar for the next scheduled event.

You choose the conversation: health, economic security, or juvenile justice, child welfare (other areas may include Federal Policy, Economic Security/Poverty and Immigration).

We'll bring the latest research, knowledge of recent activities in Arkansas as well as possible legislation and other solutions to current problems. Guests can travel from table to table as a part of a small group to gather important facts and figures to make you a better child advocate. The policy café takes between two and three hours to complete.

What is needed to host a Policy Café?

* A person or organization willing to serve as a local contact/host
* Help recruit participants (minimum of 25).
* Locate venue for event (a room with tables).
* Help publicize event.
* Help set up and clean up.

Here's what we offer:

* State and local experts to lead the table discussion.
* Research, reports, and state/county specific data.
* Limited reimbursement for food, beverage, or room rental cost.

Are you interested in having a Policy Café in your community?

If you think this might be a good idea, if you have any questions, if you need some help in planning this out, contact us at (501) 371-9678.
