Race Equity Director for Advocacy

Melvin Clayton joined AACF as Race Equity Director for Advocacy in October 2019. Melvin is a graduate of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. He brings a unique blend of experience working on social justice issues and conducting public engagement with diverse stakeholders at the grasstops and grassroots levels. Most recently he has been doing advance work with diverse communities for political campaigns.

Melvin will have three major responsibilities at AACF. One will  be working with our staff, especially in the areas of communications, outreach, public engagement and policy, to more deeply ingrain equity and inclusion in our day-to-day external advocacy work with diverse audiences and partners. Another will be working with AACF management and the board of directors to ensure that equity and inclusion are ingrained in our internal management, policies and procedures, and culture. The third will be leading our advocacy work on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and hunger policy, with a race equity focus.
