There is a decades-long federal policy that has been proven to be highly effective in pulling people out of poverty, while at the same time boosting local economies. In this event we will discuss the positive impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit for families in midst of the difficult financial decisions many low-income families are forced to make. We will hear how the tax credit puts money directly into local businesses, not only helping businesses’ bottom-line, but also providing much needed revenue for our state. It is a win-win-win policy. We will discuss a proposed bill at the state level that would help working families keep more of their money, as well. As it is tax season, we will talk about VITA tax preparation programs that can help low-income earners navigate the filing process and get the returns they have earned.
