New Maps Available: What AR Counties Stand to Lose

Projected losses in health coverage and food assistance if Congressional budget bill passes without major changes

We have published a series of maps to clearly illustrate the direct impact of the One Big Beautiful Bill on Arkansas counties. Currently, 817,000 Arkansans are insured by Medicaid and 240,000 receive food assistance through SNAP. These maps provide a detailed, local view of the projected losses in health coverage and food assistance, if the bill passes in its current form.

Why These Maps Matter:

  • The maps break down, by county, how much Arkansas communities stand to lose based on the House-passed reconciliation bill and associated Congressional Budget Office estimates.
  • They show the estimated monetary loss in Medicaid health coverage and SNAP food assistance in each county, as well as the estimated number of newly uninsured, making it clear how much is at stake for families, children, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and seniors in communities.
  • They illustrate that this bill, if passed, would affect more than those who are currently insured by Medicaid given that the Medicaid program significantly supports our hospitals across the state.
  • This is not just a statewide issue – it is a local one, with real consequences for counties.

As many as 177,000 Arkansans could lose health coverage if the bill passes. And almost 60,000 residents — many of them children — are at risk of losing food assistance. Arkansans cannot afford for this bill to pass.

We urge every Arkansan to reach out to Senators Boozman and Cotton, and the rest of Arkansas’s congressional delegation, to advocate for the protection of Arkansas families.
