Speak Up Arkansas: Episode 32 (A discussion on crime in Little Rock)

On August 16, 2017, at 5 p.m., Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and KABF 88.3 aired the thirty second episode of “Speak Up Arkansas,” a talk radio show dedicated to covering issues like health care, education, juvenile justice, the state budget, family and economic security, and more.

There is a lot of news and talk about Little Rock’s increase in violent crime. National, state and local law enforcement officials are now involved.  Are they taking the right approach? What’s Little Rock’s plan? Does it address the underlying causes of violence; does it target the right people?  We can’t police our way out of this.

More than 200 years ago Fredrick Douglass pointed out that “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.

Is that where we think Little Rock is today?

Joining us today is Mayor Mark Stodola, Police Chief Kenton Buckner, and Retired Circuit Judge Marion Humphrey.
