Summer 2010 Communications Internship

Projects for the 2010 Summer Intern will include but not necessarily be limited to the following:

Media Relations Assistance

As an intern for the communications director at AACF, one of the largest projects will be assistance in media relations. AACF releases several reports throughout the year and there is a media component to each report. The intern will be given the responsibility for drafting media advisories and assisting with the development of media releases, as well as any event planning that surrounds a press conference or other media event. All work will be done under the supervision of the communications director.

Media Tracking Project

To better understand the importance of media relations, the intern will be given the task of compiling a media tracking protocol that will help us better understand where our stories are being placed. The intern will use our existing clipping service and extrapolate data from it for use in a more "user-friendly" format. For this project, the intern will have a certain degree of autonomy as far as developing the formatting for the new data. Guidance from the communications director will also be available.

Website and New Media Assistance

AACF has a new website, www.aradvocates.org, and we're looking for ways to better integrate it with our existing and unexplored social media outlets. The intern would investigate new technologies such as better ways to host pdfs, better integration of maps and charts and social media. The intern would also assist in migrating content from our old website to the new website.

AACF is a nonprofit child advocacy organization and the communications intern position is unpaid. AACF would work with universities and colleges to ensure class credit is earned.

For more information about the scope of work for this internship, or to apply, please contact Tara Manthey, Communications Director at Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families by email or phone at 501-371-9678 Ext. 111.
